Description:
The Wellesley Collective Residency is a community-based art project that is inclusive to the student/faculty community at Wellesley College. For four days, three groups of artists are brought together from different fields and established careers (art students, art faculty, and regional artists) and are placed in unplanned collaborative environments on campus to foster spontaneous creativity and generate campus-inspired artworks. Participating in the Wellesley Collective Residency is an opportunity to collaborate within a non-hierarchical framework, create art works in dialogue with the important issues on campus, and build relationships and skills with practicing art professionals within and beyond Wellesley College.
A published book will feature the collaborative processes through photo documentation and essays that will be archived and available in the Wellesley College Art Library.
Each group consists of:
– 2+ Wellesley students (studio art, media, art history or any other major)
– 1 Faculty – visual art/critical studies/Davis curator
– 1 Visiting artist
Three main goals:
1) Assemble a small group of artist students and professionals who wouldn’t otherwise work together, challenge them to collaborate within a non-hierarchical framework.
2) Give art students the opportunity to build relationships and skills with practicing art professionals within and beyond Wellesley.
3) Create art works in collaboration with the students and engage the public in a dialogue about the issues these collaborations developed together.
