Finals and the Halfway Mark

I want to first apologise for not posting anything last week. With only a week of school left, you can probably imagine how busy I have been. I think you already know I am taking four modules. The typical course load at Queen’s is only three, given that each course is worth the equivalent of 1.2 Wellesley units, or 5 credits. However, I wanted to take a minimum of 4 Wellesley units, the regular course load at Wellesley, so I ended up with 4.8 units. That basically means I am taking 5 courses. It has not been impossible, but it hasn’t exactly been easy. Although I went in with the best intentions, there were times when the laid-back approach to education got into my head and I ended up leaving some things to the last minute. I am resolved not to do this again next semester.

Finals seem to be going slightly better than midterms did. I already finished an essay that was not due for another week, and I have a pretty extensive outline for a second essay. My third essay is due next Friday, but the professor won’t release the prompts until tomorrow (a week before the essay is due). I also still have to study for an exam, but I have been reviewing my notes for a few weeks, so I am hoping it won’t take me too long to feel well-prepared. In addition to my studies, however, I am also saying goodbye to a majority of my friends. I ended up bonding mostly with international students, a lot of whom are only here for a semester. It’s quite heart-breaking, actually, especially since it will be difficult to see them again because we are from a number of different countries. I am very thankful that I have also become friends with some local students, as well as some foreigners staying for at least a year. I myself will be going back to the states for about three weeks during winter break, and I imagine coming back will be an interesting experience.

I have to go write, but good luck with your own midterms/finals! Only a few more days until winter break.
