You may be a little thrown off by the title of this post, but I will explain. WCD or Wellesley for Caribbean Development is one of my favorite groups at Wellesley. WCD is an organization for people from the Caribbean or who are interested in the Caribbean to meet and talk about the region. A lot of the members are either from or have parents from the region. It’s a small group of really fun and interesting people.
When I first came to Wellesley, I was so excited to meet other Haitians and eventually other people from the West Indies. It is great to connect with people who have the same or similar cultural background as yours.
WCD recently had its annual cultural show, Expo. It was a lot of fun and took pictures. I wore a headdress for the fashion show. I was completely in love with this headdress and wore it all night, before and after the fashion show.
We had different groups perform like a Reggae band and some West Indian dancers. There was also some great food, food that reminded me of home. I still have dreams about the food I ate that night.
At Wellesley, there are tons of organizations that you can be a part of to really find your place here. WCD is definitely one of them for me.
