I am currently writing this post from the kitchen table in my home in New Jersey. I finished my first year of college. I cannot believe how fast it went even though sometimes it felt like forever.
My last week as a first-year at Wellesley was a great way to cap my year. On our last day of classes for the semester, SBOG (Schneider Board of Governors) brought singer Tinashe to perform. SBOG is a student group responsible for on-campus events like concerts. Tinashe was a great performer and I really enjoyed myself.
As per LDOC (Last Day of Classes) tradition, the senior class “pranked” the school by decorating different academic buildings and departments. I put “prank” in quotation marks because we are all expecting to wake up to it on the morning of LDOC. The surprise is what exactly they did. Here are some pictures.
These pictures are from the Science Center. The Class of 2017 is the green class so they decorated the Science Center with green streams with the theme of an enchanted forest. I wish the decorations could stay on all year, they looked great.
Before we all parted ways for the summer, some people in WellesleyPlus decided to host a potluck. WellesleyPlus is mentorship group at Wellesley consisted of mostly first-generation college students who come from underserved communities. The group is headed by one of the Deans, Dean Garcia, and our two first-year mentors. This group was a very important part of my first year at Wellesley. It’s where I have my closest friends and find the most support. Being a part of WellesleyPlus helped a lot in the transition from high school to college. Now, that I am technically a sophomore, I cannot wait to see how our group will grow with our years at Wellesley. Here is one picture I took of the night.
And yes, the food was good.
Here is where I write a heartfelt reflection on my time at Wellesley. There is a lot to say about how much I have grown over the last 10 months. Wellesley has definitely reshaped my outlook in the world in a way that makes me confident in my abilities to change it. I have learned so much from my classes but so much more from my peers. Some of whom are seniors who I am going to miss so much. As sophomore slowly creeps up on me, I look back on my year at Wellesley with great joy. I am also very anxious for what the next year will hold for me. As for my plans for the summer, I have not finalized anything yet, but I am hoping to make this summer just as eye-opening as my first year.
Thank you for reading, see you in the fall!
I leave you with a slightly melancholy photo of my dorm after I had packed everything up. On to new adventures!
