This week, I thought I would take it back to the basics. Why am I at Wellesley College? The academics is one of the main reasons I chose here. The primary reason you are in college is to learn about the world and Wellesley has given me that opportunity beyond belief.
In this post, I am going to list the 4 classes I am taking this semester.
Intro to Stars, Galaxies, Cosmology- Astro 101
I have always loved Astronomy. I am and always have been a casual observer. I read and watch articles and even worked at a planetarium in high school. When deciding to take this class, I wanted to deepen my understand of the field. So far, I have been doing that. I am learning a lot, (I almost can’t keep up). But I am enjoying it as well.
Bearing Witness: Conflict, Trauma, and Narrative in Africa and the African Diaspora
This class is also cross-registered with the Peace and Justice department. I really enjoy this class’s material. We watch movies and read books about conflict and/or trauma in the African diaspora. We watched so many great movies and read so many great books. I am excited to see where the class goes from here.
Intermediate Spoken French- French 206
I have been speaking French for as long as I have been alive. But I am terrible at it. Moving to the U.S from Haïti at 8 really stunted my French-speaking skills. Taking classes at Wellesley is my way of growing my language skills. This class involves a lot of speaking which I do not do much of. I can read, write and understand French, speaking is iffy. Hopefully, by the end of this course, I will be more confident in my skills.
Ancient Greek Philosophy- Philosophy 201
Philosophy is one of the majors I am considering, so I thought I would check out the classes in the department. I am loving it. Ancient Greek Philosophy is a lot more interesting then you think. It is also very interesting to see how many of the ideas that ancient philosophers pondered on are still relevant today. Also, Plato is a fascist. (not my words, but an interesting discussion we had in class about how Plato might have influenced some very bad people).
The awesome thing about Wellesley is that there are so many cool classes and not enough time to take them. I was looking at the course browser for next semester and felt very excited but also overwhelmed because I have some decisions to make.
That’s all for this week.
