Meeting Alums in Geneva

I was quite busy this week. First, I came back from a weekend trip to Milan, Italy where I met up with some friends from Wellesley. It was the first time I had seen them in almost a year and we had such a great time. We did all the things they are to do in Milan in about 2 days. We probably saw every church, visited all the (free) museums, walked around parks, and even visited a castle. Needless to say, we were very tired towards the end of our trip but can’t wait to do another one!

Our programme also continued our weekly trips to international organizations with offices in Geneva. This week we went to the UNHCR where we met with a Wellesley alum who works there and has been for the last 25 years. We sat in the cafeteria and talked about her time at Wellesley, her role at the UNHCR and our future career aspirations. She was very honest and gave us a lot of meaningful advice. It’s great to meet Wellesley alums because they are always willing to sit and talk to you about anything. I’ve even met a couple alums who attend the Graduate Institute and have had great conversations with them as well. Having a network like the alums to tap into whenever you have pertinent questions is an invaluable resource. And one that follows you wherever you go as alums are everywhere!

I have also been busy going to class. I’ve been attending an International Film Festival on Human Rights in Geneva this week. I’ve seen a lot of great films and had many fruitful discussions with the filmmakers and other people attending the screenings. Geneva is really the best place to have these sorts of conversations as people who work on these issues are all around.

Until next time,

Laïssa
