Hey, I’m back! No, introduction needed. But if you are new, my name is Laïssa. I am a senior, class of 2020 (finally!). I have been writing on the admissions blog since my first year and look forward to tieing things up in my last.
When I last wrote, I was on my way to Morocco for an internship. I am happy to report that I had a great time. I worked at a museum cataloging paintings and had a wonderful time doing so. I met many kind people and continued learning a lot about myself. I will probably do a little post on it in the future.
I started my last year at Wellesley about a month ago and I still not quite sure how to feel about it. Because I was away for a year, the whole campus has changed. I feel like I have had to reintroduce myself to Wellesley. In addition to this, I am still processing the experience I had last year. It still feels strange, as if my memories do not belong to me when I think about it. I got to visit places I never thought I would see and have incredible experiences! Being away from Wellesley made me appreciative of the things I like on campus. I have been able to reconnect with friends and professors. I am taking spending more time by the lake and spending hours in the dining hall eating with friends.
Since being back, I have been participating in some cherished Wellesley events. One of the first traditions I came back to was convocation. Seniors wear their gowns on the first day of class in celebration. Seniors also wear their class colors. Then we have convocation which is a little Welcome back ceremony. The picture attached to this post at the top is one of the many selfies I took that day.
Then I took part in Flower Sunday. During Flower Sunday, first-year students get assigned an older student to be their big sibling. I chose to have a little from Harambee House, the space for students of African descent at Wellesley. The house usually hosts a little Flower Sunday ceremony of our own where we here from a speaker, usually an alum, and reveal bigs and littles. Here is a picture of me and my new little. I now have 4!
It has been great getting to know her this past couple of weeks and meet Wellesley through her eyes.
Along with these things, I started classes (more on that later), have been working on my thesis (also more on that later), getting involved in new organizations, learning how to play guitar and just trying to make the best of my last year at Wellesley.
Until next time,
Laïssa
