My to-do list during online school is as long as it always was at Wellesley. My professors are keeping me busy. When I’m not “at college” (ie in my bedroom doing schoolwork), I’ve been on the lookout for signs of spring.
Birds are constantly singing. It’s beautiful, but it’s hard to track down the source of the sound. Luckily for me, my bedroom windows put me just below eye-level with some birds. I snapped this pic with my zoom lens from the comfort of my desk chair.
I brought my camera on a walk with my mom on Tuesday to take photos of birds, but I ended up only taking pictures of my dog. It happens.
And flowers!
Cooking continues to keep me busy. I’ve started cooking up big batches of rice to eat throughout the week, and rather than refrigerate them (rice dries out) or freeze them in a single container (for a huge frozen rice block), it occurred to me to use our silicone cupcake wrappers. It’s perfect! The wrapper peels right off, leaving a tennis ball-sized serving of rice to heat up in the microwave.
I dug out our old waffle maker and had a somewhat successful attempt at a mac and cheese waffle. It lacks a binding agent, but it was a yummy start. And today I made split pea soup (I ordered an embarrassing amount of split peas), and it turned out really well, despite missing three ingredients! My tongue is burnt. I have no patience when it comes to food. I appreciate the convenience of eating in the dining halls, but preparing my own food is so much fun. The pantry is full of puzzle pieces for me to stitch together.
Sunny days draw walkers onto sidewalks, which is lovely, but hard to navigate in the age of physical distancing. I appreciate the warm, cloudy days, when I’m the only one out on my strolls. Here’s to more warmth and blooming in the weeks ahead.
