Say what you will about the term system, but one perk is that we get the incredible “Yay, I’m done!” feeling twice per semester, not just once.
I turned in my final papers on Friday and Saturday. One was a research paper, the other a reflection on how a novel we read connects to the themes we discussed in class. Yes, I have written research papers before, but never in a week. The task was daunting on Monday and almost frightening on Tuesday. But I took the week off of work and got comfortable at my desk. Often, thinking about work is more intimidating than sitting down and completing it.
Shoutout to librarian zoom office hours, too. I tuned in for help on narrowing my topic, and then again for help forming my thesis statement, and then again for help making sure my citations were up to APA standards. It was helpful, and also fun. Librarians are the best. Ours are no exception.
Many of my sibs struggled with the fast pace and heavy workload of the term system, but I was fortunate in that it worked well for me. The workload varies widely depending on your courses. In a normal semester, it might balance out among four classes, but with the term system, if you have two heavy classes, you feel it. On the plus side, it’s easier to organize getting things done for two classes instead of four.
So I’m done with term 1! I had a lovely post-Shabbat hangout on Friday night. We set up the TV but didn’t end up watching anything. And today I’m heading out for another bike ride with friends! I’m excited to do a lot of reading and hanging out this week, and also maybe checking a few things off my to-do list, like figuring out a concentration for my major. Exciting!
