Take yourself on a date

Hi! With one more week of class left, we’re now in the thick of this term. It’s hard not to feel stressed at the moment; Next week, I have my final and a few days after that is the deadline for my research paper. I am looking forward to the spring break week we have in between T3 and T4, but first I’ll have to get through finals to really enjoy that.

This week hasn’t been too excited since I’ve been up to a bunch of prepwork for the last push of the term. Then, this weekend I worked on Friday and Saturday. Despite having a not so exciting week, I decided I wanted to go to the beach today and took myself out on a date. I cut and packed up some cheese and crackers and went down to the beach. The weather was a bit cloudy, but every 10 mins or so I’d get a nice amount of sunshine for 20 mins or so. It was honestly such a nice experience, and I really enjoyed it. It definitely made me think that I don’t do enough activities on my own; I think it’s really common in this stage of life to have our friends join us most places we go, but it was so refreshing to just enjoy the sun and waves alone. While still at the beach, I hopped on to zoom for the Agora e-board and general meeting (never thought I’d be in an Agora meeting on the beach lol!). This week’s meeting was really exciting since we’ve just accepted initiates and it was so much fun to have them in the meeting.

This is also the first time throughout all of COVID that being at home has been truly crazy. Living in Miami, spring break can get pretty crazy; however, this spring break is unlike any other. Since this week is traditionally spring break for most campuses, it has been ridiculous over the past week or so (fights breaking out, people not wearing masks, dancing on police cars). This morning I read a story about police officers closing streets so people would no longer be able to go to South Beach. (Disclaimer: I live in North Miami Beach so the beach I was on today was mostly families and not crazy at all) As someone who grew up in Miami, I genuinely have no problem with people coming to Miami to party and have fun; however, in the middle of a pandemic, it just bothers me because they could be spreading the virus and then once this week is over, Miami has to deal with the consequence of a spike in cases 🙁

Song of the week: Any song from Chemtrails Over the Country Club by Lana Del Rey!!!

Best,

Lynsey
