The chillest Friday night

After my first partial week of classes, I had the chillest Friday night. I showed up to the lawn outside the chapel just as kiddush ended and folks began lining up for Shabbat dinner. We sat on tarps on the grass and ate brisket and kugel as the sun went down. I learned about Kayla’s high school journalism class and the long, winding story of how Paula’s mother and stepfather met. It got dark, then it got buggy, and a few of us mosied up to the Jewish student lounge. I hadn’t been there since March of 2020. The cabinets were stocked with snacks, the shelves were lined with books, and the new elevator was finally completed. We stayed and chatted some more, and then we dispersed, with much of the group heading to the headphone disco. (Kind of a metaphor for life? We’re all dancing to our tunes.)

It was almost 9:00, and I totally could’ve fallen asleep, but I wanted to do more fun things. So I joined some friends who were playing board games in the Tower living room. One of them took last year off, so it’s been great seeing her again, and I’m excited to spend more time with the whole group. We got through a game and a half of Uno before we were too deep in conversation to keep track of whose turn it was. Someone came through and offered us homemade cookies. We talked about our favorite places on campus, our celebrity crushes, and our college application essays. Two years after meeting Maya, I found out that she’s also a sperm donor kid, so we spent a few minutes going down that rabbit hole. Michaela and I walked back to the quint at 10:30, and I didn’t get to bed until 11:15—for me, a wild Saturday night.

Oh yeah, and for those who are new to the blog—I’m Macy, I’m a junior from Framingham, MA majoring in peace & justice studies, and one of my favorite places on campus is the Shafer living room!
