Happy belated duck day! Yesterday was the Office of Student Involvement’s annual duck day- one of my most favorite, most random Wellesley traditions. OSI hides little plastic ducks full of candy all over campus for students to find. One of my favorite things about Wellesley is that we have a healthy appreciation for whimsy. I think people appreciate how challenging Wellesley can be. Between extracurricular activities, the endless midterm season, and feeling isolated on this tiny little island of a campus, it’s nice to have these random celebrations to break up time.
Duck day also means the unofficial start of spring at Wellesley. Yesterday’s weather was absolutely gorgeous. The campus looks like something out of a college brochure this week: sunshine, people sprawled across the Lulu Lawn studying, picnic lunches behind Bates dining hall, and everybody is wearing florals. My friends and I have been trying to soak up the long-delayed sunshine this week by studying on the lake, walking around aimlessly, and squeezing in as many picnic lunches as possible. Hopefully, this weather will stay through to this weekend’s MarMon celebrations!
In other news, today was registration day for the first years (or I guess rising sophomores). I managed to get all 5 of the classes I wanted! I have an introduction to women and gender studies class, a yoga class for my PE requirement, and the easiest physics class offered at Wellesley. For my major requirements, I am taking two 300-level education seminars. One is for teaching math and the other is a methods course (like a crash course in teaching). Normally, I would take my methods course my senior year right before I start student teaching, but I had to last-minute rearrange my schedule after some changes to the department.
On the agenda for this week: a paper due tonight that I have not started, the RA leadership kickoff, Passover seder with Hillel, and Marathon Monday celebrations!
With love,
Jessie
