A (Belated) Introduction

Hi, my name is Tenzin (she/her) and I’m a first year student at Wellesley! I apologize for my late start to blogging, and I’m excited to share my transition to Wellesley.

Some background about myself: I live in Illinois and I like to think that Illinois’ winters have prepared me for the infamous Massachusetts winter everyone’s been warning me about, but we’ll see when it happens. I’d say I’m an introvert and in later posts I can write about how being an introvert impacts how I make friends and socialize in college. In my free time, I like reading (currently reading the amazing Folk of the Air series), swimming, and listening to k-pop.

As for why I chose Wellesley, it’s interesting: if you’d asked junior year of high school Tenzin if she’d expected to attend Wellesley College, she’d probably say no (I didn’t even know how to spell “Massachusetts” correctly until this year) But my mind was changed by a YouTube video I watched about historically women’s colleges. The person in the video encouraged applying to HWCs because in HWC classrooms, students struggle less to speak up and participate and no one feels like they’re being spoken over. This stuck with me because classroom participation is something I’ve always found difficult. Coming from a smaller high school, I also knew I wanted to attend a smaller college. I liked Wellesley’s location too because I could enjoy the beautiful campus and quaint town of Wellesley while also being a shuttle ride away from the city of Boston. And that’s how I ended up applying, attending here, and writing this blog for you guys!

I’m planning to major in either Economics (am I a future finance bro in the making? BRB, need to go buy a Patagonia vest) or something in science like Neuroscience.

I live in the Quint, the collection of five dorms, which I love. The Quint has a great sense of community and it’s also close to the academic quad, where most of my classes are this semester, and next to Lulu, our campus center and dining hall.

I hope this blog can be a resource for any prospective students and those just interested in what it’s like to be at Wellesley. I’ll include some photos below from my first few weeks here and I look forward to sharing my first year at Wellesley.
