Greetings blog from fall break!
Last week a lot happened, and I must say I feel significantly lighter now. I finished my first org midterm (phew), wrote my first (mini) paper of the semester, memorized the Queen’s Change on the carillon (the piece every concert ends with), and titrated the next point for my research lab, which is currently running in the NMR (a very fancy and very useful $500 million machine I get to use) among other things.
For fall break, my friends and I headed to Marblehead, MA. The drive there was beautiful with all the leaves changing colors. Anna (my friend) has relatives there who kindly let us stay at their house for a few days. We visited the beaches, perused the boutiques, and made a lovely charcuterie board. I absolutely love being by the ocean, especially during the fall. We also happened to walk by a yard sale where there was this beautiful vintage embroidered sage green dress. She told me about all the fun times she’d had in the dress and insisted I take it for free.
The next day, we went to Salem! With Halloween in a few weeks, it’s a very busy time of season. We all made the very adult decision to start the day with soft serve for breakfast. Then we spent a couple hours going through all the shops and attractions. An actor on a tricycle growled at me on the main road, and I was in fact very startled. My friends made fun of me because it was broad daylight, but I stand by my reaction — one second I was enjoying the fall air and the next moment a man in a mask appeared growling at my feet. It was very jarring.
Now that I’m back on campus, I just got back from a birthday party/viewing party of the new season of Derry Girls on Netflix. The party is for someone I met through the Guild of Carillonneurs and we’re also in a music class together. I have never seen the show before, so I was a bit lost, but it was very funny. Tomorrow is the last day of break. I’m hoping to use it to get ahead on homework, take my research sample out of the NMR to look at the data, and do a deep clean of my room with my roommate.
Until next time,
