Hi! My name is Tenzin, a Wellesley College student, and I’ve been blogging here since the fall of my first year. But, I want to reintroduce myself to readers:
I’m a sophomore from Illinois, and I’m going to major in economics and minor in statistics. When I first introduced myself on this blog last year, I said I wanted to major in economics and neuroscience. So, it’s interesting to see how the things you want to study can shift over time!
This year, I had an amazing summer: I traveled with my family to India, Nepal, England, Belgium, and France. I also took an asynchronous online stats course with the Quantitative Analysis Institute (QAI), Wellesley’s center for data science and stats. So, I was connected to Wellesley and classmates over the summer.
I live on the east side of campus this year in the Chinese Corridor. Language corridors at Wellesley are areas in dorms where students studying a language live together and engage in weekly/monthly cultural events. I’m excited to be a part of the Chinese Corridor. Going from living on the west side in the Quint last year to the opposite side of campus is interesting. For example, my current room is much more spacious than my last one.
I’m taking Chinese, Islamic art history, multivariable calculus, and intermediate microeconomics this semester—so a blend of classes. As for activities, this is my first semester as a DJ for WZLY, Wellesley’s student radio station; I’m so so excited about that and will update on it! I hope to continue volunteering at a cat rescue shelter like last year and join some new orgs like the club water polo team.
Overall, I’m feeling really optimistic about my sophomore year. I have to say, I already enjoy being a sophomore more than a freshman: I feel more confident and at ease on campus. I’m more confident in what I plan to study, I have the gist of how things work on campus, and I know what I like to spend time on. I can’t wait to share this year with the blog, so thank you for reading! I’ve included some photos from this summer and the first couple weeks here at Wellesley.
