Hi all! My name is Tenzin, and I am a junior, or a third year student, at Wellesley. I have been blogging for the Wellesley Student Blog since my first semester here, which is insane to think about… But, I will be using this post as a reintroduction and to update on what I am doing this fall semester.
I am from Illinois and majoring in economics and minoring in statistics. In my free time, I enjoy going on walks around Wellesley’s campus, reading books, or obsessing over news and pop culture (right now, I am preoccupied with the current season of Dancing with the Stars). I am not not studying abroad this year, which many Wellesley students do during their junior year. But, I did an internship abroad this past summer in Mumbai, India through Wellesley’s Lulu Chow Wang ’66 Center for Career Education; it was an awesome experience that I will dedicate my next blog post to recapping.
This semester, I am working three jobs: firstly, this blogging job. Secondly, I am an Academic Success Coach (ASC) for my dormitory residence hall this year. ASCs are students who serve as academic mentors for other students in their dorm. On request, I provide 1-on-1 meetings with students about any academic questions they have and host weekly motivation stations, which are times to sit together and work on our respective assignments in a group setting. I enjoy being an ASC: I have met great people in my dorm and I love the feeling of helping others. Thirdly, I am a Research Assistant in the Wellesley Centers for Women’s Youth, Media, and Wellbeing Lab. The Wellesley Centers for Women is a research institute here at Wellesley College. This is my first time doing official social science research! I just completed my research training and am excited to move onto more tasks.
This obviously leaves me quite busy, so I scaled back my course load and other extracurriculars to accommodate it: I am taking 3.5 credits this semester, by taking 3 classes here at Wellesley and cross registering to take a 0.5 credit class at MIT (see my posts from March earlier this year to learn more about cross registering!) Most Wellesley students take 4 classes per semester, or 4 credits, or sometimes 5
Thank you so much for reading, and I am looking forward to blogging this fall.
