My Student Orgs

Hi Blog! I know an aspect of Wellesley that I am sure many prospective students are curious about is student clubs on campus. Today, I want to describe the main student organizations, or clubs, that I am involved with on campus:

WZLY

WZLY is Wellesley’s student radio and also reportedly the largest student organization at Wellesley by membership. I am a DJ for WZLY, so I have my own 1-hour broadcasted radio show per week. I use my show to play music of themes like summer songs or childhood throwbacks, and I chime in to talk about the significance of the songs I am playing or how I discovered them. I love being a DJ because curating music is definitely a creative outlet for me! DJs also serve on WZLY committees; I have been on the Social Committee, Events & Media Committee, and Constitution Committee. These committees have short weekly meetings and basically help organize events for WZLY members and restructure our own constitution. I have been part of WZLY since spring of my freshman year. I am taking this semester off as a DJ, but I am super excited to return next semester!

Art History Club

Next, I am a Treasurer on the executive board, or E-board, of Wellesley Art History Club! I have been part of Art History Club since fall of sophomore year. I love learning about art history but do not get many opportunities to pursue it in the classroom since I am majoring in other subjects. Art History Club has been a great way to engage with the topic outside of academics. As a club, we plan events like alum talks, trivia nights, and we recently had a Halloween costume contest. The rest of the e-board is awesome, and I really enjoy working with them. Overall, Art History Club is a lot of fun, and I plan to continue being Treasurer or involved in some capacity until I graduate!

WHACK

Earlier this year, I joined the organizing committee for WHACK 2024 or Wellesley College Hackathon. It was my first time being involved in WHACK or any tech-related event, so I was not sure what to expect, but I ended up having a good time! I was on the Marketing and Outreach Team, so my key responsibility was to find speakers and judges for the event. WHACK was this past weekend, and it was an interesting environment to witness, being around hackers working on their projects and also providing fun things like an ice cream sundae bar. Helping organize WHACK was a lot of work, but it was super rewarding to see how well the event turned out and how hackers enjoyed it.

Overall, I think clubs have a big role here on campus student life. I would also say joining clubs at Wellesley is fairly uncomplicated. I know some other colleges require applications or interviews to join a club or its E-Board, but I would say most clubs here are very excited to get as many students as possible to join.

Thank you for reading, and I hope this gives some insight into some student organizations here!
