Hello Blog,
Welcome back!! After a wonderful and restful winter break at home (working on my thesis), I am officially back on campus. I’m sad to say that this is my final semester as a student at Wellesley college, and thus, this will be my last semester posting to this blog. But never fear (I say to myself), we have many months ahead of us for senior spring festivities!
We’re just wrapping up our second week of classes (and first full week of classes). I have to say, I think I had the best FDOC (first day of classes) out of my eight semesters so far. I had my second thesis committee meeting in the morning, which is the last meeting before I defend my thesis (which is the last step before I have an official completed thesis)! I presented the work I’d done so far with my professors (I’m studying the biophysics of DNA) and received some great advice about where to look next. I also got to jump right into the lab portion of my final chemistry class where we learned how to perform reactions in the absence of oxygen. Then, I found my friend who had been abroad for the fall semester in a music practice room and bothered her for almost 2 hours (sorry Vivian). I was supposed to practice cello, but I was preoccupied by friendship, so I had to wake up early the next day to fit in a practice session at 8:30am (#worthit). I grabbed dinner with my friends that I live with and then we spent the evening making collages/moodboards for 2025. All in all, a beautiful day.
In my final semester I’m looking to cross off some bucket list items (or repeat some of my favorite activities). First and foremost, I’m really trying to savor how beautiful of a campus Wellesley is by walking around outside more! Now, this is somewhat challenging given the temperatures in Massachusetts right now, but I got a scarf for christmas, so I’m pushing through. I went on a solo lake walk this weekend around Lake Waban. I’d never gone on a lake walk in the snow and it was so cool to see the lake frozen from the other side. Speaking of winter activities, I also went traying (sledding down Severance Hill) for the first time since a blizzard in my first year. Unlike the first time when I went traying where the snow was almost a foot deep, this snow had been packed down into almost ice. We used cardboard boxes as sleds, and it was so much steeper and faster than I remember. Maybe I am just getting old. I’m hoping to go traying again before the snow melts! I’ll keep this blog updates with more things that I’m looking to do during my last semester (or things everyone should do at least once during their time at Wellesley).
Until next time,
Jade <3
