Chelsea’s final blog: Why Wellesley?

At the end of my tours I always give my “Why Wellesley” spiel. I try not to keep it concise but informative because if I drag it on at the end of the tour people tend to zone out. But this being my final blog I want to give a more in depth explanation with photos to really paint the picture.

I had a different experience than many do choosing a college to attend. I was looking for a place to continue my athletic career because this is something that has been an integral part of my life and I wasn’t ready to give it up quite yet. But I was also looking for a place where I would have strong academic rigor. I was really looking forward to being a part of the recruiting process and going through all of the ups and downs of it all.

I looked at many different colleges. Public, private, liberal arts, and so many more. I looked mainly into the liberal arts and Division III colleges because these are the colleges that I had the best chance of being able to swim at. I was stuck between 3 colleges that I equally really liked and all had such different and unique aspects. I visited all 3 of these colleges before starting my senior year. I landed on Wellesley after talking to a Wellesley alum who is one of our close family friends. She said something that I will never forget. “If I have a daughter, I want her to come to Wellesley.” She then proceeded to talk about all of the amazing things that Wellesley offered per usual. But that quote stuck with me through the entire college search process.

I attended an overnight trip with the swim team, and afterwards, I solidified my decision to come to Wellesley. The environment, my peers, future teammates—all of it came together to create this perfect picture of what Wellesley offered in my head. After that, I applied and was accepted to Wellesley! I continue to stay here because I truly cannot imagine myself anywhere else. Wellesley is the perfect fit for me. Perfect fit academically, athletically, and socially. In my first two years I have had the best experiences in both the realm of athletics and academics. I have made some of my closest friends who I consider to be my family. My professors and advisors are some of the most kind, caring, and influential people I have ever met. I really appreciate everybody that has come into my life from Wellesley. I think that it is safe to say that if I ever have a kid I would want them to come to Wellesley too! Go Blue!
