Hello hello hello!

Hi everyone!

I’m back back back again blogging this semester! This is my fourth year doing this, so it’s very bittersweet starting this journey for one last time. But let me reintroduce myself first. My name is Vyara (she/her pronouns), and I’m a senior at Wellesley, majoring in physics and minoring in math. I’m an international student from Bulgaria, and I am living in Stone-Davis this year (the best res hall if you ask me).

Hi!

This semester I’m taking two physics classes (PHYS 308 – Advanced Electromagnetism and PHYS 304 – Advanced Experimental Techniques), one classics class to fulfill a distribution requirements (CLCV 104 – Greek and Roman Mythology), and I’m doing an honors thesis in the physics department. You will definitely be hearing a lot about the last one throughout the semester (the good and the bad!). I’m also in the midst of applying for grad schools, so my schedule is definitely filled. On campus, I’m the Co-Cultural Chair for Slater, the international students organization. Together with the other Co-Cultural Chair, I will be organizing the Slater Culture show in November. The show is a showcase of the different cultures in Wellesley (and more!) through many different performances, acts, fashion shows, and food. It’s one of the biggest shows at Wellesley in the fall, so I am very excited to be helping with its organization!

Let’s catch-up now with what I have been up to between now and my last blog from the spring. I went home for a few weeks in May, which was very relaxing, and I definitely needed that recharging time. I then came back to the US for my 10-week long summer internship at the Brookhaven National Laboratory on Long Island. The whole summer there was an extraordinary experience—I got to work with world-class scientists at one of the biggest laboratories in the world. I feel like I learned so much, both as a scientist and as a person about what I want to do in the future. I was working on testing different materials and their optical performances for some specific applications, and if you want to know more, the paper we are writing on that research will be out in a few months, so I will definitely share it when it’s out!

I’m very excited to be back blogging and sharing with you the adventures of my senior year! See you next week!
