Project fun weekend was a great success! Saturday was the Chinatown After School event, Halloween at Harvard. It was cool to see all of the costume ideas the counselors and kids came up with. Our grade decided to be holidays so I attempted to be a Christmas tree. Trick or treating in the dorms was a blast and the kids were so cute! One hour of tag with them though was a little too tiring for me …I'm getting old.
I also had my friend, Adrien, visiting from Nashville this past weekend. We met up in Boston Saturday night for dinner at our favorite cafe in Cambridge, Cafe Luna, and then went down the street to Toscanini's for some delicious ice cream. I tried gingersnap molasses and Adrien went with dark chocolate and vanilla sour cherry. It was the most amazing ice cream experience in my mouth ever! We also made it to the two parties of campus this weekend, the WIld Thing party and the Toga party at TZE. Sunday we took a road trip to the coast of Southern Massachusetts and attempted to go apple picking. The season was over (boo) but we did get to pet goats and take silly pictures in cutouts.
My Tanner presentation is about my experiences in the Republic of Georgia last January. The trip was a part of the Wellesley Wintersession program. Wintersession is the period in January between the first and second semester. During Wintersession you can stay at home, take a class at Wellesley or MIT, or go on a Wintersession program to places like Japan, Morocco, India, or interestingly enough the Republic of Georgia. I went to Georgia with 6 other Wellesley students and a professor from the Anthropology department, plus about 14 other students from Williams College and Mount Holyoke. I stayed with an awesome Georgian host family in the capital, Tbilisi, and interned at a English language newspaper that reported on news in Georgia. My time in Georgia was definitely an experience that I could have never had unless I had gone to Wellesley. I learned a lot about another culture first hand, was able to travel and see a bit of Georgia, met some unforgettable people and got to actually be published in a Georgian newspaper!
And now for my Wellesley spot of the week: the Greenhouse. When it gets chilly here (it's only a matter of time) take a trip to the Greenhouse to indulge yourself in the tropical plants and temperatures. Did you know that Wellesley has a banana tree in there? And did I mention that the room is kept at like 75 degrees and 95 % humidity? Plus it's pretty cool to just see the variety of things they have growing in there.
