Hi everyone! I'm really excited to FINALLY get this blog started. I've been thinking about writing this first post for the past few days and I figured the best way to start out would be for me to introduce myself and at the same time tell you a little bit about why I chose Wellesley to begin with.
If I were a campus I would be Wellesley. Reason #1: Let's face it. Wellesley looks like Hogwarts. We have Platform 9 3/4, an infirmary, and I'm pretty sure several parts of campus could be classified as the Forbidden Forest. I love Harry Potter and any nerd like me can truly appreciate and embrace the beauty (and probable magic) this place has to offer. Reason #2: I'm an introvert and and extrovert. Sometimes, I crave solitude, and other times, I just feel like having a good time. You can't get more solitary than in a canoe in the middle of Lake Waban, and you can't get much more excitement than the downtown Boston social scene. It's the best of both worlds. Reason #3: I have a wide range of interests but it doesn't matter because I can do it all here. I love classic movies and politics. Does that mean I have to choose one over the other? Nope! I can join the film society and College Democrats at the same time. Maybe one day I'll see my favorite Shakespeare play, The Tempest, performed by the Shakespeare society, then attend a debate club practice.
So there you have it! The briefest overview I could possibly give of myself.
This week started really well! Our volleyball team is finally practicing again. I think at one point half the team was sick but we're all better now – and actually angry because we had to postpone a game against Springfield…who we love beating playing. I also had the privilege of having to watch one of my favorite movies ever for homework. If you haven't seen Dr. Strangelove go rent it now! Or if you prefer extreme convenience like I do, Youtube it. It's hilarious. Our professor had an incredible lecture about how the dilemmas the characters face in the movie are very similar to international relations today and cooperation vs competition in the game theory. It was awesome! Really thought-provoking.
Tomorrow we drive to Coast Guard for a volleyball game. Am I looking forward to the drive? Not really. But being with the team is always fun and who doesn't love a good game? I'll write with the results soon!!
