I got to visit the Davis Museum twice this week.
The Davis Museum is an art museum right here on campus, and is open to anyone. Their current exhibits range from Monet to Mesoamerican vases; even if you aren’t an art person, if you have the chance to visit I promise you’ll find at least one piece of art that will interest you. Not to mention the building is beautiful. Aspiring architects from all over the country come to study the structure of the Davis.
The first visit was con mi clase de español (with my Spanish class), to take a look at the actual painting that we are studying in our current unit. We had done some studies on the “ex-voto” that is up on the easel in this photo, but it was a completely different experience seeing the actual painting in person.
The second visit was during Family and Friends Weekend. There was one particular exhibit I wanted to see: Glass Heart (bells for Sylvia Plath). I read Plath’s novel The Bell Jar last year and it struck a chord in me. It was a deeply thought-provoking semi-autobiographical story of a woman (our age) who struggles to find happiness and fulfillment. I highly recommend it, although I would also recommend that you be prepared for a roller-coaster of emotions and an unsettling ending. The exhibit at the Davis was quiet, secluded, and calming. It was just what I needed to end the eventful weekend that was Homecoming Weekend.
