Friendsgiving

How were your Thanksgivings? We got half the week off classes here at Wellesley, a much welcomed break from classes. My holiday was composed of sleep, Netflix, homework, and just a tiny bit of social life. It seems to me like most people do go home during the break, but like I have said in previous posts, there are always activities meant to make the campus more homely for those of us who stay. I did not partake in any of those activities, but I know there is a Thanksgiving dinner program where you get paired with Wellesley Town families. This is a great option for students who cannot go home and still want to have a more traditional Thanksgiving dinner, as well as for foreign students who might not get to experience Thanksgiving dinner at home.

Last year I had Thanksgiving dinner at Wellesley with a friend’s friends. This year, my sister came to visit. We had Friendsgiving in Boston with my cousin’s friends. Despite the age difference between each group (my cousin goes to med school), the nights were surprisingly similar. We half-watched TV, played board games, and ate delicious food (and even better desserts!).

I am afraid I was a terrible host to my sister. I spent a lot of time doing readings and research for class instead of hanging out with her. Thankfully, my cousin loves shopping—especially Black Friday deals. Instead of doing Black Friday shopping in Boston, I stayed at Wellesley doing homework and preparing for finals. On Saturday, however, my cousin came out to Wellesley and we all took a break from our respective activities. We got some coffee and ice cream at J.P. Licks, had dinner at Lemon Thai, and later hung out in my dorm.

The break went by too fast, and I did not get to do as much work as I hoped. Still, I was more than glad to get some much needed rest and spent some time with my family. Now there is less than a week left before classes end. It’s hard to believe the first half of my sophomore year is about to end.

I’ll try to update you next week. Until then, good luck on you own exams before winter break!
