Celebrating America on The Great Wall

This was my first Fourth of July celebrated outside of America… Actually, it was my first Fourth of July celebrated outside of my hometown! Talk about a different experience!

Since I couldn’t hike a mountain in the Adirondacks to celebrate American Independence (as I usually do), I did the next best thing: I took a trip out to The Great Wall of China (naturally). A few friends studying in China for the summer came to visit Beijing for a fun celebratory weekend. We joined a hiking club for a lovely morning spent hiking a fairly intact portion of The Great Wall. It was a beautiful, clear day and (since hamburgers and America wasn’t an option) I can’t think of a better way to have spent the Fourth!

Happy Fourth of July to all! I hope it was lovely day wherever you are in the world!
