Head of the Charles & rowing prototypes

This weekend I met up with a few friends who attend various schools in the Boston area and we watched part of the Head of the Charles Regatta on Saturday afternoon! It was an incredibly gorgeous day to walk along the river.

And Wellesley is getting more and more colorful as we head into fall.IMG_8300

Something rather new and exciting in my life is the current trajectory of my engineering class. Last Friday, my team and I put together our first working prototype of a sock that is designed to hold a rower’s foot in place within their shoe and keep their heel from popping out. Here are a couple pictures of the process. That blue thing is a spandex pocket sewed on the sock to pad the heel and keep it in place within the shoe. We’re very excited. On Wednesday we go back to Community Rowing to have rowers test it out and give us feedback so that we can make it better. (Or even remake it entirely. Anything can happen!)

So that is where my current focus lies. I have so much respect for engineers. Their lives must become absolutely consumed by the projects they are part of. It takes so much dedication and time. I could’t believe how much time we spent in class on Friday discussing what to do before we actually did it. But it’s so important to make sure something is done right, especially when you have limited materials. I am definitely learning a lot. It’s awesome that Wellesley offers Engineering courses. I hope they choose to expand the engineering options here in the coming years:)
