Today was the best last Marathon Monday I could have hoped for. Here’s how it went down:
I got up early, cleaned my room, and sliced up some fruits and veggies for my teammates and I. My teammates came over around 8:30am to hang out and make marathon signs until about 10:00am. At 10 we headed to the main road to line up, watch the cyclists, and wait for the elite runners.
Every year, I get chills watching the elite women run by. They are so focused. Their bodies are so strong and so powerful. They run as a pack, in a way that makes me feel as though they are working together as much as they are competing against one another. Watching people run is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.
Not long after the elite men and women went by, the rest of the runners started to trickle and then to stream through. With our signs brandished high–Kiss me I’m a runner, Kiss me for a PR–we received many a smooch. One boy ran up to me, kissed me right on the lips, placed his sweat drenched hat on my head, then ran off. Turns out his number was scribbled on the inside brim! HA! Kids these days;)
In celebration of the marathon and the running life in general, here are some fun pictures:
