I had quite an eventful weekend! On Friday evening, the track team departed on a big Peter Pan bus for the indoor track New England Division III Championships in Vermont. The meet was early Saturday morning so we left Wellesley planning to arrive at our destination in Vermont around 10:30pm, spend the night at a hotel, and wake up refreshed, ten minutes from our destination. What happened was a little bit more exciting;)
Driving through the mountains, our bus got stuck on the steep, slippery roads. When the driver tried to turn around and go a less hilly route, we got stuck! We ended up having to wait an hour and a half for a tow truck, then drive another two hours to our destination via a longer route.
When we first got stuck, we were all full of nervous energy, which resulted in some nice team bonding. Someone pulled up old videos that my class year teammates and I had made as first years as a distraction. Everyone got a good laugh at our expense:) But then we started to realize we weren’t going anywhere anytime soon and we needed to be up early, ready to run in the morning. So we all got as comfortable as one can on a bus and got some sleep.
And it must have worked because we all had fast time the next day! Saturday was a great meet for everyone:
I was especially happy because my dad came to see me compete and he brought both of my high school track coaches with him! It was the first time they had ever seen me compete in college so that was very special. The fact that I’m an athlete, I owe in large part to them, so it was very meaningful to have them there.
I’m really proud of my teammates and I can’t wait to see how those competing next week do! Follow Wellesley Cross Country/Track and Field on Facebook for more updates as we head into our championship season. It’s going to be an exciting one;)
