One week until Spring Break!

Ohh boy. It’s been a long week. I’m feeling a bit under the weather so I’ve been keeping a low profile for the most part. My saving grace has been that I have awesome friends willing to help me when I need it. I’ve been spending as much time in my room resting as I can between classes and there’s always someone texting to check up on how I’m doing or to ask if I need something. I could never ask for better friends:)

Unfortunately, I don’t have a lot of fun things to report because I’ve been here holed up in my room so much. But I am working on a really cool presentation that I’d love to share:

For my linguistics class I am reading a paper titled: “Cosmopolitanism and linguistic capital in China: Language, gender and the transition to a globalized market economy in Beijing.” It’s about the different ways that language use manifests itself in gender expression.  The study shows that Beijingers who work for Chinese companies and those who work for international companies exhibit different linguistic qualities. In addition, those who work for Chinese companies show less variation in language use between genders than those who work for international companies. Lots of nerdy linguistic stuff. But basically, I’m realizing that this is really interesting and exciting to me. And that makes me happy:) It’s fun to realize when you’ve found new interests! Even sick I can’t help but want to read and learn more about this. So that’s good:)
Well, I’ll probably get back to my tea and an episode of House of Cards for some rest time! Over and out!
