Do we really only have 3 more weeks of class??
I can’t believe we just registered for next semester’s courses this week. Sophomore registration was yesterday and it went really smoothly for me – but I still had stress dreams leading up to it! The morning of registration, I remember my last dream was of me trying to log into Banner (the website we use for registration) and I couldn’t because I needed to download an internet plug-in or something first, but it was 8:00am and registration had started but since I couldn’t register I wouldn’t get into any of my classes and – gah! It was rough. But only in my dream, thankfully.
Speaking of which, here are the courses I *successfully registered for!
Here’s what all those acronyms actually mean!
BISC: Biological Sciences, specifically Horticulture (the art or practice of garden cultivation and management). It satisfies my lab unit graduation requirement, and plus I love gardening! I have 4 potted plants sitting on my windowsill as I type.
ECON: Economics, 202 is Macroeconomic Analysis and 203 is Econometrics (like a harder version of Statistics). These both satisfy requirements for my Economics major, which I actually declared recently! Very exciting. I had to declare my major if I want to study abroad junior year – which I do! I’m currently applying to study at Oxford, and will probably apply to a few other schools in England, too.
ARTH: Art History! I’ve never taken anything remotely similar to this course before and I’m very excited for it. 🙂 It’s a seminar (only 12 students!) and is focused on Frida Kahlo. I am a bit worried because it’s the first 300-level course I’ll have taken…but I shouldn’t fear! I’m sure I can handle it. It also satisfies my art/film/music graduation requirement.
But oh my goodness that seemingly infinite stretch of time between 8:00 and 8:01 almost made my heart stop. All I was doing was copying and pasting CRN’s (course registration numbers) from an excel sheet I put together beforehand into Banner, but my hands were shaking and my I could feel my heart beating in my rib cage (is the human heart in the rib cage? I don’t know. But mine felt like it was.) I guess the root of all this stress is the fear of not getting into the classes you want and having to scramble to fit into other classes that are filling up AS you scramble!! Yes, quite a stressful process indeed.
But! All is well and done. And it only gets easier from here, because juniors and seniors get priority in registration, so classes usually aren’t as filled up as they are by the time they filter down to us underlings.
Do note, however, that Emily has all 8:30’s next semester. ALL 8:30’s!!! Emily thinks she might cry a little.
I haven’t woken up before 8:30am this ENTIRE semester! (Except yesterday for registration.) My classes all start at 9:50 or 11:10 right now. Oh, how glorious!
Also note, however, that Emily has practically all of Thursday off (once she drags herself out of bed at an ungodly hour). This is especially exciting because I just secured a membership discount for Wellesley students at MetroRock, a climbing gym in Boston. 😀 (I think I’ve mentioned before I’m the Co-President of the Outing Club? Well, Ruthie is the president who does Wellesley-related things, and I’m the liason president. Hence reaching out to MetroRock!) And with my Thursdays’ practically free….I could climb during the week and not just on the weekends anymore! Yay
Aaaaaand that will be all for today. I’m leaving soon to go to work in the Ville (where I waitress – yes, on a Friday night) and between now and then I’m going to try to relax. I had an Econ (201, Microeconomic Analysis) midterm this morning and I am thoroughly spent.
Until next week, everyone!
