Oregon: The Land Of Trees

Greetings from Oregon~!

This past week has been phenomenal. I just have to say: there is nothing quite like being on summer vacation. I’m going to miss this when I go into the workforce (although I won’t miss certain other things about college).

In a nutshell, my mom and I road-tripped to Oregon for a reunion she was having with some friends. The last two days were spent in Portland and I must say – I’ve fallen in love with this town. I wasn’t taken at first…because it just seems kind of industrial but also not as alive and bustling as SF or New York, and not as pretty (in a classical, red-brick kind of way) as Boston, but then I discovered the Saturday Markets, and then Powell’s Bookstore, and I just fell in love. I hope to come back and spend more time in this city.

I’ve also fallen in love with the state of Oregon. If I ever have a daughter, I want to name her Oregon. I know that sounds slightly insane right now, but it’s the truth and it’s a thought that’s crossed my mind and I decided to share it with you.

The word that comes to mind immediately when I think of Oregon is: green. So green. And lush. And beautiful. And misty. And big – full of open space. Honestly, the whole place just reminds me a lot of Canada. Even the people. Everyone’s laid back, not all up in your business, not rushing places, not workaholics, not materialistic. Also I’ve never seen so many horses and llamas in my life. Literally everyone has them in their front yards (except in urban areas of course), which are themselves like five square acres large. It’s insane.

And there are so many trees. So many! And so many bodies of water. Lakes, waterfalls, rivers, you name it. Not to mention that huge body of water next to us called the Pacific Ocean. My two favorite things, forests and bodies of water, are bountiful in this wondrous state.

I’ve written more about it on my personal blog (and put more pictures): http://freesolotraveler.blogspot.com/

More adventures are to come next week~ stay tuned! (I’m going climbing in Yosemite with my boyfriend ;))
