Autumn is sweet, we call it Fall

I’ll make it to the moon if I have to crawl. If these Red Hot Chili Pepper lyrics are making you nostalgic, I know exactly how you feel. This weekend I discovered the ultimate Pandora playlist and Scar Tissue was one of my tunes. I had a solo dance party to some serious throwbacks while doing my weekend reading. If that has you concerned about the social life at Wellesley, please don’t fret, I actually did have a great weekend and not just with Jane Eyre and a jam sesh.

Saturday evening I met up with a friend of mine from home who goes to Boston University. We had both worked in her father’s law firm this summer. Our primary project was to organize and coordinate research for a book on orthopedic implant device failure, however my favorite part of the job was organizing a viewing party for the documentary feature film Hot Coffee . The film examined the way tort reform has limited citizen’s access to justice and dismissed important cases as frivolous law suits. Susan Saladoff, the director of the film also joined the party via Skype after the HBO premiere of the movie. Later in the summer I met Susan Saladoff and heard her speak about the messages of the movie at the American Association of Justice convention in New York City.

My summer was pretty exciting with world traveling and internships. Despite the weather turning crisp, I’m still holding on to the last vestiges of summer since the equinox won’t happen until the 23rd. I’d like to hang on to my flip flops for a while.

I am very much in school mode, which I’m sure my mom will be pleased to read. I’m an English major and newly declared Africana Studies minor. I’m taking five classes this semester:

Black Women Writers AFR 212

Modern Poetry ENG 251

The 19th Century Novel ENG 272

Latin 200

For a fun twist I’m also taking Leadership and Ethics in Literature at MIT. While it may seem bizarre to take a literature class at the mathematics institute, the class is turning out to be a favorite of mine. There are four Wellesley students and an MIT friend of mine from high school in the class. As you can imagine with so many English classes there is a lot of reading. Today, a gray and rainy Tuesday, is perfect for curling up in one of Wellesley’s gorgeous common rooms with a mug of tea and a long book. I have plenty of both, so I’ll have to wrap it up for now. Have a fantastic week!
