Hello hello~!
I am officially done with my second (out of three) terms at Oxford!! It feels so good. π I am ready to sleep, relax, explore/travel around the UK…and then begin my last term in six weeks’ time! (Yes, our break is six weeks long!!)
This past weekend was also EPIC! I went climbing in the Lake District for the first time, and it is so beautiful!! England truly is beautiful. The snowcapped mountains and green valleys reminded me of giant, powdered-sugar-covered chocolate scones sitting on a very plush, velvet, green carpet. π
Without further ado, here are some pictures!
If you look closely, you can see a person in the upper right corner of this picture:
Towards the end of our second day of climbing…
Oh this was our campsite! π
And this, the snow-capped mountains I was telling you about…
HA. This is my friend and climbing partner, Ed, sitting on his “throne in the sky”. It was a very nicely shaped rock that made for good sitting.
Here is my friend Jody looking pretty epic above the entire valley!
Ed being “king of the hill”:
Oh! I’m pointing to a sheep here! There were SO many sheep in the Lake District. Actually there are just a lot of sheep in the UK in general. This sheep greeted us pretty high up on the mountain, after we’d been climbing for a while!
Here I am showing off all of Ed’s gear that I was using. These little bits of metal keep us alive and safe! (We put them into cracks in the rock and they actually are designed to hold your weight–and much more–in the event that you should fall. Pretty neat!)
View from the top…
Me climbing! Looks pretty epic, but in all honesty I wasn’t climbing anything very difficult. π
I LOVE this picture. Captures the essence of Lake District beauty.
Another quasi-but-not-really epic picture of me climbing…
Oh! Here we are descending the mountain after our climb. While climbing is always inevitably fun, I don’t always like the descent down a dangerous, side gully at the end of the day…
~Anyway~ that’s it! In summary, the Lake District is beautiful, worth a visit, and climbing is awesome.
Ciao!
Emily
