Today is Election Day!! I know this blog’s target audience is prospective students so if you’re reading this, there may be a chance you’re not 18 yet — but if you are, I hope you voted / are voting!! I mailed in my absentee ballot for California last week 😀 😀
Politics aside though–this past week was crazy! I made new friends who like to play piano/sing just like I do! And I joined WADO – Wellesley’s Asian Dance Organization – and just this past Sunday learned 2 new dances! (1 kpop and 1 traditional ballet)
I don’t have pictures of these things though…but I DO have pictures of this beautiful view outside Jewett Arts Center~ I’m glad I was able to catch the leaves falling/blowing through the air!
Last week I also attended a reading of “The Nanjing Massacre: Poems” by poet Wing Tek Lum, a 2nd (or 3rd?) generation Chinese American born and raised in Honolulu. He was phenomenal. I don’t even know how to describe the experience of listening to him read his poems aloud except that it was a combination of touching, moving, and horrifying. Afterwards I talked to him (and got his email!) and bought his book of poems: http://www.bambooridge.com/storeitem.aspx?pid=94.
And some more pictures of how beautiful our campus is right now!! Despite the time switch back to non-daylight savings (or whatever it is), we’ve still been having great sunshine during the few hours of daylight we do have–I’m pleasantly surprised at how long autumn has managed to last this year! So happy it’s not just a few weeks long like it has been in past years… I love this feast of colors my eyes are treated to every day. 😀
Oh and also my friend Tina and I were so moved by Wing Tek’s readings that we actually interviewed him the next day! Well, technically she did. I just watched, and manned the camera. 😀 She does this a lot, too! Very much into using film as her medium of storytelling, just as mine is prose/journal writing and Wing Tek’s is poetry…
And then!! Saturday!! I went to NYC with my art history class! Along with like, 5 other classes haha. They combined all our field trips to make it more cost effective, and we ended up taking 3 whole buses down to NYC (with 50+ people on each bus!).
It was SUCH a fun day! Here are some pictures from that day that are not at all in chronological order:
The museum at night before we left…so pretty… <3
Dinner with friends!! I met up with a friend from my summer internship who’s studying in NYC ~ Sooo yummy SiChuan food…
And this is a fellow friend of mine who was also on the field trip haha, she joined my other friend and I for SiChuan food…
Also walked through Central Park!! Oh my goodness it was such a glorious day. And I don’t know if it was just the tint on my sunglasses or what but honestly the ENTIRE park looked SO pretty!! Such pretty autumn colors. And the weather was just beautiful. Beautiful sunny blue skies. Crisp, sweet air. Just the right temperature. It was a wonderful day.
And some more pictures from earlier in the day:
My Chinese Painting art history class professor took our class for a tour of the Asia Wing in the museum!! (This was before we got a few hours of free time and I went and met up with my friend.)
All in all it’s been a wonderful week! Ah, I am so happy. But also a bit nervous. Because today is election day. But still happy! Ha
Okay, that’s it for now–until next week!
