Greetings~!
I can’t believe I have officially only four weeks left in Oxford :O Starting from tomorrow, it is exactly four weeks until Thursday of 6th week, which is when I fly back to Boston! Gah!
My sprained ankle has seriously damaged my plans for my last few weeks at Oxford. π I thought I’d be running around enjoying all the good weather, meeting up with friends for the last time, going punting, seeing all the gardens, etc.
Instead, I’ve had to stay at home most of the time so my ankle heals completely (otherwise I’ll have more problems down the road). AND you know what else? I stayed home so much that I had nothing else really to do except do work on my laptop, and as a result of my excessive laptop use over the last two weeks, my wrists are hurting >.< Not sure if it’s legitimate carpel tunnel, but I also don’t really want to find out π So there was a period of time when I was icing both my ankles (my left one also started hurting because it had to keep compensating for my right when I walked) and both my wrists! Such a poor little injured person.
These few weeks have actually given me some insight into what it might feel like to be handicapped–because I essentially was a bit handicapped for a week or so! I couldn’t even cook food for myself, my wrists hurt so bad. π Thank goodness I have kind flatmates who helped cook for me.
But now I can kind of understand how upsetting–and frustrating–it is to not be able to use your body. To not be able to go out and do things, see friends. To not be able to walk to the grocery store to buy yourself food. To have difficulty even walking to your classes. Sigh. Never appreciated all my functioning body parts so much before.
But enough of the pity party. As my friend would say, Time to hop off the complain train.
Here are some photos from last week when I went (read: hobbled over) to my college, Mansfield, for some formal meals with my friends and flatmates!
And over the weekend I also invited my friend from the Go club over to hang out with my flatmates and me–and he cooked jollof rice, a very common West African dish, for us!
So that was my week π Today I’m going to try punting (a renowned Oxford tradition) for the first time with my flatmates–and Tope (who’s in the picture above)! Hope it goes well…shouldn’t be too hard on my ankle because I’ll be sitting in a boat the whole time π
And now I’m going to rest my wrists a bit–typing all this has caused them to hurt again and I need to ice them!
Until next week,
~Em
