Hi hi hi!
Sincere apologies for having fallen off the face of the earth halfway through the summer! But I’m back now! Well, sort of. I’m still in the Bay Area in California. 😀 (Life is good here.) I don’t leave for my year abroad at Oxford until Sept. 29! Wooo!
Oh my, how to sum up an entire half of a summer in one blog post. In a nutshell, I explored the living daylights out of Boston, had a wonderful time at the fraternity where I lived (Alpha Delta Phi – MIT chapter), LOVED coming home to the Bay, went to YOSEMITE (where I camped, swam, hitchhiked for the first time, saw a shooting star, and made two new friends), and am now spending my time (somewhat equally, which is strange) between Fremont (where I’m from), Berkeley, and San Francisco. I quite love it, I must admit. I have friends everywhere I can crash with so that makes life easier.
Oh–I went to an Oxford send off for Bay Area students last week, and it was so fun! I also learned some strange things about Oxford, like how students have to wear these “academic gowns” (essentially floor-length black robes) for the following events: matriculation, EXAMS (all of them!), graduation, and DINNER. Dinner!! Although to be fair it’s only for formal dinners. But they have those like once a week!!
I think England will be quite the ball. I’m excited. 😀 I also plan to stay after the school year and spend my summer interning in London. What better opportunity to get some international work experience?!
I guess that’s all for now. I also usually post a ton of pictures with my blog posts but right now I’m just overwhelmed with the number of pictures I have from over the summer! So you shall see none of them, I’m sorry. (I take full responsibility.)
The cover photo is a picture of Biscuit enjoying the San Francisco view though! (For those who don’t know, Biscuit is a dog who was living in the frat when I was there; his owner has since graduated MIT and moved to San Francisco to work for DropBox; I live here so naturally Biscuit and I were reunited!) It’s been a fun few days with Biscuit. I’ve missed him.
Anyway! Today I’m off to another adventure–a friend of mine from MIT who’s been working in LA all summer is coming up to the Bay to visit me! We shall bounce around SF, Berkeley and Fremont and eat SO MUCH GOOD FOOD. 😀
Oh and I should also mention that meanwhile, in the 6 months between the end of my State Street internship and my departure for England, I’m currently interning for another company, College Outside, and I get to work from home and have flexible hours. Woo! I’m essentially “on” all day, and do bits of work here and there as emails and responses come in on my phone, but it’s great because I’m not locked in from, say, a 9-5 period of time every day. Yay!
Anyway, time to go! Lots to do and plenty to see. You’ll see photos in my post next week!
Cheers,
Em
P.S. I can’t believe classes at Wellesley have started! It seems unreal. Hope my friends are all having fun back on campus!
Also, here’s the full picture of Biscuit because he’s just too adorable to only have his head showing. This was taken at Dolores Park in the Mission District of SF!
