Hello hello!
Fresher’s Week (aka orientation) at Oxford is in full swing! Such fun. And it’s crazy–because the drinking age in the UK is 18, everybody parties like crazy this week!! I had no idea British people were so crazy! Fresher’s Week might as well be a euphemism for a-week-of-getting-wasted….. 😉
But aside from the crazy clubbing and drinking! We had a very lovely dinner in our chapel which was very Harry Potter-esque (long tables down a beautiful hall with candles and everything) and it had like 4 courses. 🙂 And I’ve met with one of my tutors already! So how the Oxford tutorial works is you meet with your tutor once a week, and prior to meeting, they assign you a LOT of reading, and you write a 4-5 page paper before you meet with them each week, targeting a specific topic (related to the reading) that they assign you. And I think it has to be research paper-esque…with like citations and such. At least for Econ.
I’m excited! My topic for next week was:
How does unearned income affect the labour supply decision on the intensive and extensive margins? How might we convincingly test for the size of these effects?
And I had no idea what intensive and extensive margins were. Ha. But I googled them and soon found out. 🙂 Now on to the 10 or so research papers to read! Wooo!
Anyway, lots to do and plenty to see–gotta go! Talk to you next week!
Best,
Em
