Fall break & flight bookings

Fall break is already coming to a close. Tomorrow morning, once again, I will find myself wedged on a Greyhound bus bound for Boston, as we creep our way past the places I’ve never visited but now have memorized-New Rochelle, Bridgeport, New Haven, Westerly, Kingstown.

I’m so relaxed right now, which is part of the reason this update is coming so late. It’s been one of those amazing days where you don’t actually have to do anything – free to wallow away the hours to your heart’s content. I’ve spent a good portion of my visit lying on the floor with the light of my life, my dog, Shadow. We watched the second presidential debate together last night in such a manner, Shadow and I. It was so different from the way I watched the first one, standing for two hours straight in Pendleton Atrium, with over a hundred Wellesley Woman snapping at Hilary’s grace under pressure, and Donald Trump’s comments spreading a ripple of hushed whispers. My cognitive poetics professor had suggested we look for the conceptual metaphor “POLITICS AS SPORTS” and I’ll admit it…I looked for it once and then got swept up in the divisiveness and forgot.

Look at this crazy goober!

You know what else I did over break? I booked my own plane tickets for the first time ever, for Copenhagen this spring! I did all the research myself, and I found a good deal. For some reason, that was the action that made it all feel real…like I am really going to be spending five months in this strange and wonderful place. I realized that the longest I’ve gone consecutively without seeing my family is three months, and so that part will be bittersweet (my dog, guys) but I am SO excited for all the opportunities and independence that studying abroad will bring. I was practically skipping around the house after we bought those tickets.

I know this coming weekend is both Family and Friends and Discover Wellesley weekend. Hooray! I want to encourage you all to come if you can, and especially if you’re considering applying early decision. Not only do we students love visitors, (whether they be family members or “prospies”) but also because we want to share our community with you, so you can get a glimpse into Wellesley as it is.
See you tomorrow, Wellesley, and as always:

Ever lovely yours,

Eleanor

See you soon, beautiful (and mean) Lake Waban swans!
