The One with On Campus “Lectures”

Hi everyone!!

So, One thing I was really excited about coming to college was the fact that I would have the opportunity to meet and listen to some pretty incredible people. An institution like Wellesley attracts a lot of really amazing and accomplished individuals who come to speak to the Wellesley community. Yes, I do realize that this sounds kind of nerdy, but I am a big fan of listening to a really good talk! Prior to college I would watch a lot of TEDx talks in my free time, and if I wanted to hear someone in person, that often meant going through the hassle of commuting hours to get to the city on a weekday. College makes this SO much more accessible, since all these amazing talks with extraordinary individuals will literally be happening a 5 minute walk away from your dorm.

A few weeks ago Madeleine Albright (Former Secretary of State and Wellesley Class Of ‘59) visited the college, and I was lucky enough to be one of the students who signed up in time to attend her talk. It was a really great opportunity to network with current students and alumni and hear a really insightful talk from Madeleine Albright about speaking across differences.
Then last week, a well known historian and activist, Blair Imani, came to discuss the intersection of her different identities. It was a really empowering and interesting conversation. It was especially meaningful to me since I have been following her work on social media for about 5 years now, and it was incredible to finally meet her in person! Here’s a picture I took with her after the talk:

Of course these are just the few lectures that I have been able to attend, and there are SO many more happening every week! These talks have definitely been an enriching addition to my life at Wellesley, and I really look forward to hearing from more incredible people in the future! I’ll be sure to keep you all updated :))

Signing Off,
Ilma
