Happy early Thanksgiving! I think this fall is colder than usual– at least that’s what I tell myself. As a Massachusetts native, I am utterly mortified by my response to the change in weather! I cannot leave my building without gloves, a puffer jacket, and slipper socks to boot. Even then, I stalk around campus shivering and cursing like an angry old man most of the time. The cold paired with 4:30 sunsets and midterms means I have to work extra hard at staying cheery.
In pursuit of this, I am focusing on victories both big and small this week. Right off the bat, course registration went swimmingly. I got every class I wanted, save for a later section of Spanish than I was hoping for. I am slotted to take Intermediate Spanish, Introduction to American Studies, my First-Year Writing Course, Educating Young Children with Special Needs, and Beginners Yoga. That means I will be filling not one, not two, but FIVE distribution requirements! I am feeling especially productive. My earliest class is at 11:10 and I managed to allow time to eat in between too.
I also managed to finally fix the blinds in my bedroom so I can see outside. Do they close? No. But it’s a small price to pay for falling asleep under the moon and waking up to sunshine peeking through the trees every day. I have a corner room in Freeman so, unlike my sorry hall mates that face yet another brick building, I face the woods between us and Dower Hall.
Looking ahead, I have a Spanish test on Monday and an Education midterm paper due on Friday. That night, after Shabbat dinner, my friends and I are going to see Hamlet with the Shakespeare Society (one of several societies on campus, but focused on theatre). We went to see their Rocky Horror Picture Show on Halloween and I can’t wait to see Hamlet! It’s especially fun to see theatre at such a small college because I always recognize people on stage. Saturday is yet another mock trial scrimmage before a lazy Sunday spent waiting out this pseudo-winter.
Until next time,
Jessie
