Winter Break at Last

Happy winter break!

I am not going to lie: this past week has been kind of lame. For one thing, COVID-19 cases have been rising and I have been trying to lay low as much as possible. We had a socially-distanced Friday night service followed by a grab-and-go Shabbat dinner. I was planning on going to a small party on Saturday night that was reasonably canceled. Then my Monday Education class was moved to zoom along with our last mock trial team. I ended up heading home this morning, much earlier than expected, just to be safe. All of these cancellations left me plenty of time to stay barricade myself in the library for finals.

That doesn’t mean my week has been nothing but researching culturally sustaining pedagogy and studying the imperfect tense. On Friday night, my friends and I gathered at Tupelo point to celebrate the end of the semester. We played Mitski, snuggled under our Office of Religious and Spiritual Life blankets, and ate some woefully underbaked gingerbread (courtesy of yours truly) while staring across Lake Waban. It all felt very X. The next day, I went to the Choir Christmas concert to see one of my best friends perform. The rest of the week was studying with a brief interruption brought to you by the therapy dogs at Clapp Library. The heading of this article is a picture of my new best friend, Daisy.

With classes done and finals coming to a close (but not soon enough) I am calling it winter break. My upperclassmen friends advised I lay low the next month and relax after a hectic semester. I have, of course, ignored their advice completely. The next few weeks are packed with babysitting jobs and picking up shifts at my old summer job before heading to the mock trial boot camp! The camp rented an AirBnB for a week-long festival of case law, movie nights, and scrimmaging for hours.

Happy Holidays,

Jessie
