Hello Blog!
This is a very exciting few weeks at Wellesley for many reasons. First, and most likely applicable to readers of this blog, it’s admitted students weekend! I am working both weekends giving tours, so please say hi! Last weekend was a blast, and this weekend should be too. I talked to so many prospective students (and committed students as well!), and I’m just so excited to welcome the next class of first years to Wellesley! Next, we are coming up on Marmon (Marathon Monday) Weekend. This is a huge social event on campus, which I’ll definitely expand on in my next blog post, but for now, you’ll have to be satisfied with that teaser. And finally, I have become a chef.
It’s currently Passover, so I made some delicious matzo pizzas with my friends! My roommate and friend Anabelle is Jewish and it’s a tradition in her family to make matzo pizzas during Passover. Last year, we made some pretty basic cheese pizzas, but this year we really upped the stakes and used basil. There are kitchens in every dorm, so my friends and I just went down to the basement one evening and used the oven. Anabelle told us the story of Passover and we ate our (many) pizzas – it was a really lovely way to spend an evening.
I also ended up going home this past weekend to spend Easter with my family and family friends. We had lots of delicious food, and I really let my culinary abilities shine. By this I mean I made cookies (pizzelles to be specific), but I was proud of myself nonetheless! Although I never mastered the perfect circular shape, once I topped it with some homemade whipped cream, toasted almonds, and dried roses, it looked great and tasted delicious.
And just this Monday, my organic chemistry lab made guacamole! Just kidding. We made avocado soap, which I guess you could consider very unseasoned, very toxic guacamole. It was kind of funny to see full avocados in the lab, though, and when we were initially mashing it to release the oils, it looked exactly like spread avocado toast. Of course the one time I cannot eat an avocado it’s the ripest, most tender and green avocado I have ever encountered. I’ll update with my final soap once it cures!
Until next time,
