Hello Blog!
Now I’m not going to say I can tell the future… but I’m also not going to say I don’t have the power of prophecy on my side. This week (as alluded to in my last blog post) was Lake Day! On Wednesday we received an email bright and early at 7am from President Paula Johnson telling us that all classes were canceled and that we should enjoy the beautiful weather.
Lake Day is a tradition that began in the early 1980s. It’s usually during the fall semester before it gets too cold so students can enjoy our incredible campus and spend time together. For the past few years, it’s been a more casual occasion where people gathered for snacks and lawn games for a few hours, but this year they brought back the tradition of having no classes. SBOG, our all-college events planning board, also organized for there to be food like frozen lemonade and fried dough and carnival rides on Sev Green. The SBOG frog (a beloved mascot) was in attendance and might I also add was very tall this year.
Personally, when I received the news, I decided to sleep in. If there is one thing that keeps me feeling balanced in college, it’s the fact that I almost always get a good night’s rest. That being said, I’m never one to turn down an extra few hours. When I awoke from my slumber, I saw that there were Student9s tickets for the Red Sox game that evening. Student9s are $9 tickets to baseball games and something any college student in the Boston area can get. Fenway Park is just about a 10-15 min walk from Wellesley’s Loco (Local Motion bus) Marlboro Market stop, so it’s really easy to get to.
Even though I have grown up my entire life in MA, I have (embarrassingly) never been to a Red Sox game. I got to experience my first ball park frank as well as peanuts with shells on! All in all, it was a very fun experience that I wouldn’t have had time for if not for Lake Day.
Midterm season is right around the corner, so Lake Day was a really nice way to give students some time for themselves before things really start ramping up. My first orgo midterm is this week so wish me luck!
Until next time,
