Entertainment now!

It’s sad to say but this Monday was our second to last intramural soccer game! Did I mention our team name is Team GUAPAS? I say this is sad because usually the second to last event right before the end is what gets me– by the real ending game next week I’ll be more cheerful because it means the transition into intramural tennis for me. Intramural sports are fun because professors and students alike play together. Our team has two Spanish department professors and I must say, they have talent!

On Tuesday I did the spontaneous thing of getting Indian food with my friend Ken in Boston. It was nice to get out during the week instead of waiting for the weekend. On Wednesday I attended a laser wood cutting workshop put on by the art department and made two pieces of art- one wood, and the other plastic. The computer program was difficult for me to use, so I just used my own pattern for the wood piece and my friend Emily’s cooler pattern for the plastic piece.

Hmm… I’ll call it, “wooden daisy”

Emily’s got skilllllls!

On Thursday I had a plant experiment, and a quiz to take in Horticulture, as well as a presentation in my Spanish seminar. This, all after already giving a presentation in my Gender studies class on Helena Viramontes- whom you should definitely check out. She has a collection of short stories titled “The Moths” that I highly recommend.

On Friday morning I sleepily walked over to the Center for Work and Service to hear the results of the Meyer’s test I took to analyze which careers would be a good fit for me after Wellesley (nothing to take too seriously, of course, but fun nonetheless!) Then by dinner time I woke up with the help of my excitement for a Lila Downs concert I was to attend with my friend Julie. Downs sings Mexican folk/mariachi songs and can carry a tune as high as an opera singer. She was wonderful as she played at  the Berklee College of Music in Boston. After the concert, Julie and I got back to Wellesley early enough to dance bachata and salsa in our friend Luly’s room.

Dancing is a great way to begin or end a night

By Saturday, I was *almost dead* and slept on the bus ride to the opera in NY, an event organized by Professor Hodge of the Russian department. For just $25, students were able to see the opera and dine at Uncle Vanya’s in the theatre district. I felt pretty guilty when the delicious food made me sleepy at the show… but I woke enough times to catch the gist of the plot, and enjoyed my first opera ever!
