Dorm Spirit

Almost everybody gets attached to their first year dorm… One of my earliest Wellesley memories is watching my two house presidents, Hannah and Macherie, chanting:

“Tower spirit

Let me hear it

When we yell, we yell like h___

And this is what the h___ we yell!

East! West! East! West!

Tower court is the best!”

Hannah lived next to my old room on the 5th floor of tower, east side. Macherie lived in the “Princess Suite” on the west side, 2nd floor—that was Madame Chiang Kai Shek’s (’17) old room! East/West rivalries in Tower Court die hard.

I was lucky enough to live in a spacious triple in Tower Court my first year at Wellesley—view of Lake Waban, 2 closets, space for 30+ standing people, the whole shebang. Sophomore and junior year I lived in a double on the 5th floor of Tower with one of my first-year roommates, who’s still my best friend. Almost all of my closest friends (who also lived on my floor first year) stayed in Tower. You’ll notice a theme here… While it’s easy to fall in love with Tower’s wooden floors and character, my roommate and I are eagerly moving into a 2-person, 2-room suite on the fourth floor of Claflin. We have so much space, we don’t know what to do with it!

Obviously, I’m biased, so let me give you an overview. The newer dorms on the East side of campus are known for spacious rooms, and a very short walk from the science center and 2 dining halls. Stone-Davis is known for its tight-knit community. Students who live in the residential Quad love Pomeroy’s creative dining options and the sense of community. If there was a “Harry Potter” dorm on campus, it would be Tower Court. If you’re looking for a non-traditional dorm experience, there are 2 language immersion houses (Casa Cervantes and French House) and multiple student-run co-ops. 98% of Wellesley students live on campus, come visit and you’ll see why!
