Although my past week's schedule just didn't permit me to attend to posting on the blog, it did allow me a few hours of respite this weekend in the form of attending the annual all-out dose of South Asian culture infamously dubbed "Shruti Laya".
If you come to Swellesley and never see the show, I don't think you can really regard yourself a legitimate graduate until you make a point of taking in some much needed Bhangra music and beautiful, flowing costumes.
I didn't participate in the show this year, although many of my friends performed.
And they performed beautifully.
I suppose you never really know someone until you know their most public side, which I most definitely saw here!
So I went both as moral (read: shouting at the stage in friendly jest every time they came up, along with the rest of the Wellesley Women) support and simply to laugh off my stress as random 'hiccups' in the show occurred.
One such hiccup was when the fashion show was well underway, and instead of two women modeling their garb, two 'men' began dancing with the previous models!
It was really quite a hilarity to see, and I wish I had filmed it!
Alas, I must convey the raucousness only through my friends' photos, as my camera was 1)misbehaving battery-wise and 2) simply not cooperating with dark photos.
So enjoy the little taste of Wellesley– hopefully you'll be experiencing/performing/laughing along yourself sometime soon!
