Hello, Hello, Hello!
As of now, my week has been inching (well, to be serious and truthful–zooming) by way, way too fast for me to actually be able to sit down, close my eyes, and relax. I mean, it's almost as though I shut my eyes for a second on Monday, and oh! there goes Tuesday.
I'm not sure how many of y'all have yet experienced this in the point of life you may be situated in (any comments? care to enlighten me?), but good grief, it sure happens to me.
I get this sensation a lot these days due to the sheer number and quality of commitments I find myself getting into.
Don't let that previous sentence scare you off or make you think twice about Wellesley (or Swellesley, as I call it.)! That's why I love it so much.
Honestly.
But my schedule just seems to keep filling up. Kind of like the oft-disliked, straight-to-the-point bottom of an upturned hourglass. And even though I think I'm keeping up and thus winning with the various commitments, I really am…not.
I think this is partly due to the organization-and-commitment-filled Fall Fling the wonderful clubs at Wellesley hold every year.
In my first, freshman (which is called firstyear at Swells!) year of Wellesley basically consisted of my walking into Fall Fling, my mouth dropping open, and my eyes bulging.
Kind of like a frog.
Like this frog, actually.
It just mind-boggled me as to the sheer number of (fun, non-academic) opportunities present there. I mean, sure, the organization website present here shows that there are a lot of organization opportunities, but it's another thing entirely when they each have a table filled with candy and other free stuff luring you in.
That first day, I believe I signed up for ten different student orgs.
I couldn't resist.
They were all so, so inviting. Of course, the free candy didn't hurt either.
[One of Martial Arts' performances. I'm sorta in the middle. ]
Unfortunately, I could only stretch myself so thin.
I ended up committing to the Wellesley Al-Muslimat, the Martial Arts Club at Wellesley, Girls' LEAP, the Wellesley Newspaper, College Government, Student Admissions Representatives, and a couple of other, smaller commitments. Add to that four classes and an eight hour job and that equals a frazzled Laila.
So this year, my schedule is cut down.
A little.
I've shaved off a little off the sides: Now I'm only doing Al-Muslimat, the Martial Arts Club, Wellesley Arab Women, a couple of smaller commitments, a job prepping biology labs, and five classes.
It's cool. I think I can manage it.
But as a side note to you prospies, prioritize before signing up.
You will not regret it. Take it from a calloused sophomore.
