academic life

Hi everyone;

This past week pretty quiet. I have been mainly studying and trying to finalize my final projects. Going to school in Geneva feels very much like Wellesley but different in two key ways. I don’t have as much work to do while here. In fact, I have so much free time that I finished two novels and started the third one. I also have a lot of academic freedom. Most professors are flexible with the assignments they assign, as long as you turn something in. This can be a little challenging if you are someone who likes structure. I personally have found it to be very interesting. I have been able to research topics that I have always had an interest in working on but have never been able to fully realize. For example, I am writing a short story for one of my final projects and working on a podcast for another class.

I have more time to dedicate to other things besides my studies because unlike the graduate and Ph. D students here, I am not writing a thesis. Studying at the graduate institute as an exchange student for a semester was a great way for me to get a peek into what academics are like at the graduate level. I’ve especially been thinking a lot about this because it will be a decision I will have to make soon (ah!).  Being here has made it more of a possibility for me.

Until next time,

Laïssa
