Learning

This week has been a great week. I have been able to witness so many important conversations between people I admire and with my peers.

First, I went to an amazing art gallery in Boston to see an exhibit called “A Tribute to Barkley L. Hendricks. I am not an Art major or have taken any art classes but I love art. I was able to see a lot of contemporary artists that I enjoy including Amy Sherald and Shawn Theodore. I also to discover the work of other artists which was fun as well. Here are some of my pictures from the gallery.

Another thing that happened this week was meeting Prof. Gayatri Spivak. We were reading her work in one of my classes Black Paris, “Can the Subaltern Speak?”. This essay is one of her most famous pieces and it was really valuable to hear her discuss her process of writing it and how her thinking has evolved in the decades since it was first published. She was very funny and very insightful. I had an opportunity to hear her speak twice and both times were enriching.

As a way to celebrate International Working Women’s Day, Wellesley hosted the African Women Leader’s Conference. African women from all over the continent came to discuss issues related to women’s leadership on the continent. The conference has also been enriching and fun to experience. I have been volunteering and it is interesting to hear the conversations that people are having.

At Wellesley has given me the opportunity to meet with people all across the world who are making or will be making important contributions to the world. This week has shown me how much I stand to learn while here.
