This past week has been one very exciting. First off, I went to the MFA in Boston. If you know me, you know that I love museums. In high school, I worked at a local museum so I have a real appreciation for museums.
The great thing about this is that I didn’t have to pay. The MFA gives college students free admission with their ID. This made me even more excited to explore. Just like almost every museum, the MFA in Boston had different galleries for different regions of the world. I headed straight for the Asia, Oceania, and Africa gallery.
It was great to see the different parts of Asia and Africa represented as well as Oceania. Oceania is a part of the world you never hear about, let alone see in an art museum. I must say that the gallery was a little lacking, especially compared to the European or Ancient Egyptian galleries.

After that, I stumbled into the Contemporary Art gallery which ended up being really cool. As always contemporary art galleries contain some pretty weird almost nonsensical pieces of art. Some you question how they end up in museums in the first place. The art gallery started with this sign on the wall that said, “All Art has been contemporary.”
A statement I highly agree with. I saw some really fascinating pieces and took pictures (of course) which I will now share with you.
There was a graffiti wall outside the museum I took a picture of that too.
Later that day, I attended Mamaland. Mamaland is a show put on by WASA, Wellesley’s African Students Association. The show features dancers, singers, drummers and skits. The first year class has to perform something (a dance, a song, etc.). We decided on a play which I co-wrote with another first-year Christine. It was fun to see our work on the stage.
The show also included a fashion show which was also fun as well. Here are some pictures from Mamaland 2016.
